On Saturday, May 18, 2024, in the heart of Sarajevo, we held a performance titled “Krv na vašim rukama” (Blood on Your Hands), an act that shook and awakened the conscience of the public.
Against the flickering flame of the Eternal Flame, activists tirelessly stood, raising awareness among passersby. They elicited interest, astonishment, and ultimately gratitude that VivaBiH, by its existence, gives voice to those who have none, thereby taking a step closer to liberating animals from a system that fails to recognize them.
Our activists wore white masks on their faces and white gloves with red paint on their hands.
These masks are not just a symbol of indifference to animal suffering but a stark reminder of the brutality hidden behind the facade of modern society. Behind the serene facade of modern society lies a dark reality – the brutal and systemic exploitation of innocent beings slaughtered within the walls of slaughterhouses.
The symbolism of the white gloves stained with red paint is manifold.
White gloves typically symbolize purity and innocence, while the color red often signifies blood and guilt.
The whiteness of the gloves represents the innocence and purity of animals that are often victims of cruelty and abuse in the food industry, while the red color symbolizes their suffering and the blood shed due to human exploitation.
Staining the white gloves with red paint is a powerful protest symbol against cruelty to animals in the meat, dairy, and egg industries. It highlights that while consumers of these products may appear clean or innocent, their complicity and responsibility for animal suffering become evident. Thus, this symbolism points to moral ambivalence, suggesting that something that seems pure or innocent is in fact tainted or wrong.
No one is innocent; every individual must face the truth that they are complicit in this crime. Whether through silence, apathy, or consumption! We all bear some responsibility for the blood that stains our hands.
The performance uses the symbolism of white gloves stained with red paint to prompt the public to reflect on moral and ethical issues related to animal farming for food. It can inspire people to reconsider their dietary habits and understand the consequences of their choices on animals.
Wearing white gloves stained with red paint is also a symbol of solidarity with animals and an expression of support for their liberation from suffering and exploitation.
In addition, TV screens displayed footage from factory farms and how the industry treats animals, while banners with messages like “Oni se boje” (They are afraid) and “Pomozi im” (Help them) called on citizens to take action and do something to assist animals.
The performance is not just a stage for expressing dissatisfaction. It is a voice for those who have none, a call to change a system that exploits innocent beings. VivaBiH refuses to turn a blind eye to the suffering that society has ignored for too long. Through the “Krv na vašim rukama” performance, we aimed to lift the veil of silence and reveal the horrifying truth.
The activist group VivaBiH offers not only awareness but also a path to redemption.
By our example, we send a message to the world that individuals can make a difference and that we must not remain neutral when it comes to the exploitation and killing of animals.
Everyone is called to change, to face the truth, and to take responsibility for their actions.
“Krv na vašim rukama” is a revolution of empathy that invites everyone to join in creating a better world, where justice and compassion are the foundations upon which our society rests.
Our vision of the future is not shaped by cruelty but by compassion, respect, and freedom for every being. Together, we can rewrite history.
We continue our work to raise awareness and promote positive changes in society!
