It has been exactly two months since the end of VegOdluka, and only now are we becoming fully aware of the significance of this program for the growth of veganism in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Given that most people make New Year’s resolutions, it turns out that many people also start with veganism in January!
For the fourth consecutive year, we organized the VegOdluka program. Since 2020, we have been able to inspire and support people throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina to try veganism during the month of January and beyond.
This year’s program has proven to be the most successful yet, as the total number of participants increased compared to last year. We are proud that this year VegOdluka experienced even greater growth, with over 150 people signing up and participating in the program, trying out being vegan for 31 days.
Hundreds of people have participated in the program so far, and we believe that in two to three years, this number will reach a thousand!
The VegOdluka program included three nutritionally balanced meals for each day in January, and this year’s meal plan and recipes were created by Ena Tešić, a vegan, a master of nutrition, and the owner of the “Veggae” Nutrition Counseling.
Participation in the program was completely free!
The program included our daily support through a private Facebook group and Instagram chat for participants, helping them successfully complete their vegan month. This included posting recipes, weekly grocery lists, shopping tips, information, workshops, and more. Of course, the project coordinator, the entire VivaBiH team, and our nutritionist Ena were there to answer all questions and concerns.
Additionally, participants shared photos of their meals in the group and chat, exchanged recipe tips, shared experiences, and encouraged each other.

The first live event titled “Hangout with Ena” was held on January 20, 2024, at Bistro Zdravo, where Ena gave a lecture titled “Food Labels – How to Interpret Them Correctly” and held a cooking workshop where we made burgers with red bean patties, noodle soup with chickpeas, and a green smoothie. This year’s VegOdluka program concluded with a live closing event held on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Bistro Zdravo.
Ena gave a lecture titled “How Much to Trust the Scale? – Body Weight as an Indicator of Health.” In her presentation, Ena talked about body weight and composition, water retention, muscle mass and fat, nutrient-rich vs. calorie-rich foods, the psychological impact of number obsession, intuitive eating, and how health markers are more important than weight.
To our great satisfaction, all participants showed a desire to further familiarize themselves with the topic, and they asked questions that Ena answered.
Following the excellent presentation, we had a cooking workshop where we made sandwiches with tahini and quick blackberry jam, Mediterranean salad, and millet with broccoli and leeks.
We hope that our participants learned something new at this event and enjoyed tasting the great dishes prepared by our Ena.
Prvi uživo događaj pod nazivom „Druženje sa Enom“ se održao 20.01.2024. u prostorijama Bistra Zdrava, gdje nam je Ena držala predavanje pod nazivom „Oznake na namirnicama – kako ih pravilno tumačiti“ i kulinarsku radionicu na kojoj su se pravili burgeri sa pljeskavicom od crvenog graha, supa sa rezancima i slanutkom, te zeleni smuti. Ovogodišnji program VegOdluka je završio sa uživo završnim događajem koji se održao u petak, 02.02.2024. godine u prostorijama Bistro Zdravo.
Naša Ena je održala predavanje pod nazivom „Koliko vjerovati vagi? – tjelesna težina kao pokazatelj zdravlja“. U prezentaciji Ena je pričala o tjelesnoj težini i sastavu tijela, zadržavanju vode, mišićnoj masi i masnoći, hrani bogatoj nutrijentima ili kalorijama, psihološkom uticaju opsesije brojkama, intuitivnoj ishrani, ali i o tome da su markeri zdravlja važniji od težine.
Na naše veliko zadovoljstvo, svi_e učesnici_e su pokazali_e želju da se još bolje upoznaju sa temom, te su postavljali_e pitanja na koje je naša Ena odgovarala.
Nakon sjajne prezentacije, uslijedila je kulinarska radionica na kojoj se pravio sendvič sa tahinijem i brzim džemom od kupina, mediteranska salata, proso sa brokolijem i prasom.
Nadamo se da su naši_e učesnici_e programa naučili_e nešto novo na ovom događaju i uživali_e u degustaciji sjajnih jela koje je pripremila naša Ena.

In a pleasant atmosphere and great company, with a shared meal and quality conversations, we successfully marked the end of the VegOdluka program that evening.
Our program has inspired some to make their final VegOdluka! We received many confirmations that our participants continue to use recipes from the program, even two months after its conclusion, and many have remained faithful to the vegan diet. We are very pleased to have helped everyone who wanted to become vegan to transition more easily!
Every beginning is difficult, but with a little effort, we can change our habits and make the world a slightly better and healthier place.
We will continue the VegOdluka program next year! We are really looking forward to the fifth anniversary of the program, as we will strive to make VegOdluka 2025 the best and most successful yet, with plenty of new content! See you there!
