The second VivaBiH Fest – say YES to veganism

This year’s VivaBiH Fest will be held on November 4th and 5th at Hotel Holiday in Sarajevo, under the slogan “Reci DA veganstvu” (Say YES to veganism).
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT AT THE FESTIVAL?
Just like last year, you can expect great educational workshops and panel discussions, vegan food exhibitors and a music and entertainment program, and like last year, the entrance will be FREE.
An educational workshop was held as part of the World Plant Milk Day

On Tuesday, August 22, 2023 we celebrated World Plant Milk Day!
This day marks the growing popularity of plant-based alternatives to animal milk, and raises awareness of their many health benefits, as well as the benefits for animals and the environment.
We celebrated this very important day in the building of Goethe-Institut in Sarajevo on the 22th of August. The workshop was called “Nauči praviti biljna mlijeka uz Vladu” (Learn how to make plant milk with Vlado).
Our participants had the opportunity to learn everything about plant-based milk from experts in this field, from production to use!
The individuals on your plate – Can you look your food in the eyes?

At the end of September, 24.09.2022. in the afternoon in Sarajevo in front of the Eternal Flame, the VivaBiH activist group held the action “Individuals on your plates”.
The main banner of this action with the question “Did your food have the same eye color as you?” and “Let’s stop speciesism!” has attracted a lot of attention from our fellow citizens.
The question alone made them think, and many showed interest in finding out what speciesism is.
We actually wanted to encourage people to re-establish that connection between what is on their plate and that individual who wanted to be carefree, happy and who wanted to live. We also wanted to bring the concept of speciesism closer to people.
New tastes and discoveries in “Summer taste of compassion”

While celebrating World Plant Milk Day, on Saturday 20.08.22. we organized a gathering called “Summer taste of compassion”.The event was planned and executed within our campaign “Truths about Milk” with the goal of educating the public on why we shouldn’t be consuming cow’s milk and other animals’ milk. Even though we were surprised by the thunder and rain, the atmosphere in Bistro Zdravo (the restaurant where the event was held) was amazing. We watched the documentary “Cowspiracy” which tackles different ecological problems like climate change, water usage, deforestation and ocean dead zones, and comes to the conclusion that animal agriculture, including the dairy industry, is the leading cause of environmental destruction. After the movie, our guests had the opportunity to hear 3 interesting educational presentations.
The action “In the name of invisible victims” and taking other’s blindfolds off

On Saturday, July 23, 2022, VivaBiH once again went out in public with its activist group. The action “In the name of invisible victims” was the opportunity to show the unnecessary cruelty towards animals. Our performance carries that name, because it perfectly shows the truth of people turning a blind eye to the suffering and pain of non-human animals and the message we want to send. Unfortunately, most people are not aware of the fact that about 70 billion land animals are killed annually in animal industries. If we add marine animals, which are measured in tons, those numbers are even higher. These are devastating facts, but many choose to remain ignorant and blind to these facts rather than face the truth.
Veganism is the moral duty of everyone!

“Veganism is not a matter of opinion, lifestyle or particular circumstances. It is a moral obligation that binds us – all of us – just as do moral obligations that involve the fundamental rights of humans.” – Gary L. Francione
Our organization organized a public street event called “Change my Mind” on Tuesday the 28th of June 2022.
We set up a table on the street with the writing “Veganism is the moral duty of everyone”. Next to that, we also had a call to action, precisely a call to discuss and debate the above-mentioned writing and it said “Change my mind”.
VivaBiH took part in a conference in the USA

Only a few get to do what they truly love in life. It is a special privilege to be able to work in the animal rights sector and to work on promoting veganism in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is an even bigger privilege and honor to be a part of a big conference whose goal is the empowerment of vegan activists. Perhaps just now, Ajdin Arnautović might be able to fathom this amazing opportunity and how much it has changed him. We wanted to share with you a little fraction of his experience while attending the conference. Continue reading to see everything he has learned during the “LEAD for Farmed Animals” conference, which took place in Newport Beach.
The “Meal of Justice” performance had a big impact on the citizens of Sarajevo

“You may never know what results come of your actions, but if you do nothing, there will be no results.” Mahatma Gandhi
Last Saturday, May 28, 2022, VivaBiH marked World Hunger Day with its action “Meal of Justice”.
We did this performance with our activist group with the desire to attract the attention of the citizens of Sarajevo and encourage them to think about the connection between veganism and world hunger.

Vigil in Novi Sad – VivaBiH supported the Animal Save Movement

“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.” – Desmond Tutu.
Have you ever seen animals on a slaughter truck? You can look away or you can take a stand against killing. Screams, sketches, trucks full of feces, unbearable smells and other horror scenes are experienced by animal rights activists during actions called “Vigils” in which they greet trucks with animals and witness their treatment. The fear of these tortured creatures in the trucks cuts through the air! One such action in Novi Sad, organized by the Animal Save Movement group, was joined by members of our organization.
